Elevated House
This slender second story addition to a remodeled bungalow is rotated 10 degrees away from the first level creating an elevated roof terrace and new underpass in the existing garden.

The roof terrace level is almost perpendicular to the lower garden level. This disposition minimizes the massing of the addition on the site and frames a new relationship between house and garden.
The roof terrace level forms an underpass below, which links the house and the garden and maintains the original flow of the landscape. Above, a new outside room is formed.
The connecting stair volume is deliberately subsumed into the larger body, behind a uniform surface, reading as lower-becoming-upper. The stair winds at the top to amplify the engagement between landing and roof terrace.
